You can customize the STK user interface in several ways to better suit your workflow and preferences. Here are some of the main methods:

  1. Customizing Toolbars:
    • STK has many toolbars to help you perform common tasks quickly. You can show or hide toolbars by selecting Toolbars from the View menu.
    • You can also customize toolbars by clicking the toolbar's Options button (down arrow) and selecting Customize.... This opens a dialog box where you can adjust the toolbar and add or remove buttons.
    • You can move the Toolbars to any side of the Workspace, try adding some to the left side. This gives you more screen realestate!
  2. Docking Windows
    1. You can Dock all the windows in STK.
    2. You can right-click the top section of a window to select its display type.
    3. I suggest keeping the Object Browser and the Globe Manager as Docked, AND I usually have the Auto-Hide. There is a pin that changes them to Auto-Hide when you dont need it.
  3. Close the Timeline View.
    1. Timeline View can be useful but in most cases, I simply close it. It takes up too much screen realestate because most people use Landscape Monitors.
  4. Window > Tile Verticaly
    1. This is helpful to make the most out of your STK interface.
  5. (Advanced) Using UI Plugins:
    • You can integrate additional functionality into the STK desktop using UI plugins. Once installed, you can access a plugin from a toolbar or menu in the STK workspace.
    • For more information on building a UI plugin, refer to the STK Programming Help, which you can access from the STK Help menu.
  6. (Advanced) Build a STK Engine Application
    1. If you want to completely remove the STK Interface and build your own. You can also build an STK Engine Application. This is useful to operators who want minimal buttons and automation features while still using STK.
  7. Save as Default Scenario
    1. Once you have your scenario setup, File > Set as Default Scenario,
  8. If its all broken and you dont like what you just did...
    1. Reset Current User Settings. This is an function that can run to reset your layout. It also saves your STK Scenario Directory to be STK 12_yyyymmdd in the same directory.
