Ensuring Optimal Graphics Card Usage for STK

Graphics card issues used to be a major problem for running STK (Systems Tool Kit). However, with advancements in graphics technology, these issues are less common but still a possibility. This article outlines steps to verify and optimize your graphics card settings to ensure STK runs smoothly.

Verify Graphics Card

Confirm STK is Using the Correct Graphics Card

1. Open STK and navigate to `Help > Graphics Card Info`.

2. Under OpenGL Information, check if the correct graphics card brand is displayed. A dedicated graphics card should be shown. It is preferred to use a dedicated Nvidia graphics card.

3. If STK is using an integrated graphics card, it can lead to crashes because there is insufficient computational and graphical power as the computational resource is shared.

If a Dedicated Graphics Card is Not Being Used

1. Force STK to Use Dedicated Graphics Card:

   - Laptops often default to using integrated graphics to save power. This can be changed in your graphics card settings.

   - Right-click on your desktop and select your graphics card Control Panel (e.g., NVIDIA Control Panel).

   - Go to `3D settings > Manage 3D Settings`.

   - Under `Preferred graphics processor`, select `High-performance NVIDIA processor` or your equivalent dedicated graphics card.

   - Alternatively, you can set STK specifically to use the dedicated graphics card under `Program Settings`.

Verify Graphics Driver Date and Update

1. Update Graphics Drivers:

   - Graphics drivers should be updated each time STK is updated. Newer STK versions may utilize the latest OpenGL capabilities.

   - To update, go to your graphics card manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers.

   - Alternatively, you can use your graphics card's Control Panel to check for updates.

Steps to Force STK to Use Dedicated Graphics Card

1. Laptop Power Saving Features:

   - Some laptops may start applications with integrated graphics to save power.

   - Follow these steps to ensure STK uses the dedicated graphics card:

     - Open your graphics card Control Panel (e.g., NVIDIA Control Panel).

     - Go to `3D settings > Manage 3D Settings`.

     - Under `Preferred graphics processor`, select `High-performance NVIDIA processor`.

     - Alternatively, set STK specifically to use the dedicated graphics card.

2. Windows Graphics Settings:

   - Right-click on your desktop and select `Display Settings`.

   - Scroll down and select `Graphics Settings`.

   - Browse to your STK installation folder and select `AgUiApplication.exe`.

   - Set the graphics specifications to `High Performance` and click `Save`.

By following these steps, you can ensure that STK uses the correct graphics card and is less likely to encounter crashes. For more detailed information and support, refer to AGI's recommended system requirements and support resources.
